Dear Members of South Leics
Hello, hope you all are well. As part of the new ‘Op Behold’ I will be sending regular messages on crime prevention as its easy to forget simple things when we are busy with our busy lives. Have a walk around your home and think about your home security. How easy is it to access the rear of the property? Is there anything you can do to improve your home natural surveillance at the front of your property such as by cutting trees or high hedges?
When was the last time you actually tested your burglar alarm if you have one to see if it still works. There are some that have battery powered sensors so ensure that you have replaced the batteries. Some alarm systems enable you to connect via your wifi connection onto your smart phone. You may need to buy a wifi module and in most cases you may just only need to upgrade just the alarm controller box instead of replacing any existing wiring or sensors which could be an easy upgrade. Having access onto your smart phone enables you to keep track if there is an activation of your alarm system whilst you’re out.
Those who have high value and sentimental goods such as jewellery should consider purchasing a safe. Ensure the safe meets the insurance ratings incase you need to claim. When fitting a safe insure it is fixed to the ground or wall and obviously well hidden. There are also some safes you can get that look like a plug socket on the wall and pulls out like a draw for example.
Alternately there are bank vaults which you can pay an annual fee to keep sentimental items. Search on google "Bank Vaults near me".
Hope the above advice helps.
