Cash machine scams

Good Morning,

In the run up to Christmas and New Year we are going to be sharing some crime prevention messages with you to help protect you and others. Please feel free to share them far and wide through social media and other ways.

Over the festive period and throughout the year many of us will use a cash machine whether this is to check a bank balance or withdraw money.

When using a cash machine we would like to remind you to do the following:

1. Check who is behind you - are you stood alone or is someone looking over your shoulder - some cash machines have handy little mirrors fitted to assist you with this.

2. Shield your pin - make sure you cover your pin with your other hand or use the fitted shields on some cash machines.

3. Before putting your card in make sure you check the machine over - are there any wobbly bits around the card slot? does something seem out of place or appears to have been added?

If you notice anything out of place then please report it the bank or building society and us at Leicestershire Police.

You can report non emergency incidents and crimes via 101 or through our website.

After the year hard year many of us have experienced we don't want you to fall victim of a scam.
