  • Bottesford and Normanton: Speeding

    Alert message sent 16/12/2020 16:40:00

Information sent on behalf of Leicestershire Police

    Dear Residents

Following concerns raised about speeding in various locations in Bottesford and at Normanton, I have spent some time on Saturday 12th December in the afternoon addressing this with speed monitoring and would like to update you on my findings.

I spent 15 minutes on Grantham Road from 16:00, between the Old Red Lion pub and the Skatepark within the 30mph zone. During this period 5 vehicles were recorded at the following speeds, 35/39/37/38/39. Out of these 5, 3 were local to Bottesford with one resident residing along Grantham Road.

I then moved along to Belvoir Road near to the Cricket Club and spent nearly 15 minutes speed monitoring. Most of the vehicles seen were within the speed limit, a couple were seen at 31/32 but nothing too excessive.

I then continued to the High Street by the junction with Albert Street. I then spent a further 15 minutes speed monitoring, again most vehicles were well within the speed limit, however one vehicle was seen speeding at 34mph. Given the junction and all the parked cars, I would say this is excessive for the conditions. The driver was from a neighbouring village in Nottinghamshire.

I then went to Normanton and spent 25 minutes in the centre of the village speed monitoring. During this period 5 vehicles were travelling at the following speeds: 35/41/39/37/34. Of these 5, 2 were local to Bottesford.

The above speeding vehicles will receive an advice letter.

We applaud the majority that were driving to the conditions of the road and adhering to the speed limits, this helps contribute to the safety of all road users. We will continue with this activity and when time allows and there is the opportunity I will also be supported by Neighbourhood Priority Officers to complete enforcement.

    Kind Regards
