Dear Residents
Thank you for your continued response with our priority setting surveys. Your feedback has helped us stay focussed on what matters to you most. From the results and looking at our crime and incidents, they have remained the same as last month.
In order to address Priority 1, we have completed speed monitoring activities and also enforcement. The locations that have been identified for speeding are: Buckminster, Waltham on the Wolds, Croxton Kerrial, Wymondham, Eastwell Sproxton. Harby Sewstern.
We have also included Waltham on the Wolds and Harby as an identified issue of the weight restrictions not being adhered to. In order to address this, as a PCSO, I have developed an advice letter to be sent to registered keepers and companies of heavy goods vehicles seen passing through the locations. Moving forward with this I am also seeking support from Neighbourhood Priority Officers to spend time in the area, stopping and speaking with HGV drivers.
We have logged the following activity for Priority 1 09/12/ Waltham on the Wolds HGV monitoring on the High Street, also had view of Goadby Road.
09/12 Harby HGV Monitoring 15:10-15:35 6 advice letters
12/12 Speed monitoring, Bottesford 45 mins & Normanton 20 min, 10 speeding advice letters sent, 5 were local to the area.
17/12 Speed enforcement Croxton with Neighbourhood Priority Officers’ 20 mins from 09:50, no offences.
17/12 Speed enforcement Eastwell with NPO’s 10:30-11:15 1 traffic offence report for 45mph on a 30mph road.
On the 22nd December we were supported by Special Constables trained in the use of the SL700 speed gun who worked across Melton and Rutland in our priority spots. They spent time in Wymondham as well as locations in Rutland and Melton Rural South, no offences were reported in Wymondham.
To address priority 2, rural patrols have continued across the beat area from us, your beat team and neighbourhood priority officers.
The following crimes have been reported for December 01/12 Theft of a handbag from a vehicle in Thorpe Arnold. CID are currently investigating a suspect for this offence. 02/12 Delivery van stolen in Waltham on the Wolds. CID are currently investigating this where a male has been arrested and released under investigation. 02/12 Criminal Damage to animal traps in Eaton 06/12 Theft of heating oil in Chadwell 07/12 – Attempt residential burglary in Bottesford 09/12 – Damage to gates to a field in Buckminster 12/12 - Locks broken to a stable on Goadby Marwood, nothing stolen. 13/12 - Attempt burglary to a garage in Easthorpe, nothing stolen 12th-14th - Theft of 8 metal hurdle panels from a sheep field in Scalford 14/12 -Residential Burglary in Bottesford between 14:00 and 18:30 28/12 – Attempt catalytic converter theft in Cox Drive, Bottesford 30th-31st – Padlock to gates and barn in Croxton Kerrial cut, nothing stolen.
In addition to these rural crimes, the following crimes were also recorded in December for the Rural North area. 3 reports of Malicious Communications 5 reports of public order 6 safeguarding reports 2 reports of Harassment 11 reports of assault 3 road traffic collisions 9 domestic incidents 4 reports of criminal damage A stop check was made in Harby on 03/12 at 21:46 resulting in possession of drugs where the offender was given a conditional caution.
The same period in 2019 saw 5 residential burglaries, 3 other burglaries, 6 criminal damage, 6 thefts, 9 vehicle crimes, 7 harassment, 11 assaults, 3 public order, 1 domestic incident, 1 road traffic collision, 1 traffic offence, 1 Hate incident and 2 safeguarding reports.

Priority 3 Nuisance motorbikes including off road cars.
My last update in November saw an emerging issue at Coston Ford where we recorded a criminal damage report. With thanks to a member of the public who obtained 2 vehicle registrations as they left the area onto the main road, this has been followed up with 2 drivers being spoken to and advised of driving in the area. We understand that there has been frustrations with reporting these issues to us on 101. This is being addressed with our management and we would still like to encourage residents to keep reporting these issues to us.
In order to increase our patrols in the area a way marker has been placed in the location at the ford on 24th December. This is a geographical area marked out on one of our systems and logs patrols in the area. Through our daily briefings officers are instructed to patrol and spend time in the area. This has shown 110 visits with over 16 hours spent there since the 24th December.
The beat team have also recorded the following patrols and activity: 01/12 Coston Ford monitoring 18:00-19:00 02/12 Coston Ford monitoring 21:30-22:00 6/12 Water Tower, Buckminster re off road bikes. Stop checked 6 bikes AIO and 3 vehicles AIO 19/12 Coston Ford Monitoring 21:15-21:45 19/12 Email sent to Highways asking for help with by way closure and ascertaining ownership of the land adjacent to the Ford. Reply received that it is LCC that deal with closure of the by ways. 20/12 Coston Ford 15:30-17:00 18:30 & 21:30 5 mins 20/12 Buckminster Water Tower check 21/12 Coston ford check late afternoon and 9.20pm 21/12 Buckminster water tower check 09:10 21/12 E-mail sent to the environment agency regarding the damage to the River Bank, awaiting reply. 23/12 Email sent to LCC requesting closure of certain by ways in the area to help with the issue at Coston. Awaiting reply. 26/12 Patrols Buckminster water tower, Coston Ford, Sewstern & Buckminster by- ways 27/12 Patrols Coston Ford 11:30, 6 motorbikes prevented from riding on a footpath, believed they returned later. 27/12 Buckminster Water Tower 12:00, 3 riders made to load their non-road legal bikes back onto a trailer they had just unloaded from and advised about by-way rules. They then left the area. 28/12 Officers responded to a priority call to Quad Bikes in the area of Sproxton, the riders were found, their vehicle registrations obtained and checked and they were given advice under current Covid Restrictions and left the area. 26/12 Coston Ford patrolled 8pm
As we have now entered a national lockdown, we will still be patrolling and responding to emergencies and incidents. Some of our community engagement will again have to reduce during this period. Once these restrictions are lifted you will hopefully see me out in the villages knocking on doors and completing surveys and signing up more residents to Neighbourhood Link.
